ITO 401/2,5-AI Mid-frequency Induction Heater (reconstruction)

This heater was reconstructed for the Zbirovia Zbiroh Group, and is designed for the induction heating of round or square-shaped (cross-sectionally) steel billets to forging temperatures.  In consideration of the extensive repairs required, the model number was changed to SOP 400/3-A30.  During its reconstruction, pneumatic, cooling and electrical components were all completely upgraded.  The new heater is controlled by a Unitronics programmable logic controller (PLC).  The operator adds billets to the stepping conveyor at standing level (this stepping conveyor was not part of the reconstruction).   Inductor connections were completed re-designed.  This particular change uses a new inductor construction design, which greatly reduces the time needed for inductor change-outs (to about 10 mins).  The temperature of each heated piece is measured with a non-contact pyrometer and the time/date stamp and temperature value can be saved to the PLC memory.  Billets can leave the inductor one of two ways:

  • Gravitationally - this is rather designed for shorter billets.  The billets fall into a fixed chute.
  • Roller extractor - must be manually set in place for longer billets just after the inductor exit.

The heater is controlled by the operator using push-button and the PLC display on which parameters (desired temperature, power level, temperature ranges, operator login, etc) are all set.  This same display also communicates any faults in the induction heating system to the operator.
